Still from the "What is a Chromosome?" project

The What is a Chromosome project involved the development of animated visual media to address certain recalcitrant misconceptions held by many undergraduate Biology students. In this case, an animation was created detailing the changing organizational structure of a chromosome through the different stages of the cell cycle. This media was tested for its efficacy in helping students overcome misconceptions about chromosome structure and the difference between "gene" and "allele".

Parthenogenesis

Parthenogenesis

This is a frame from an animation describing the intriguing process of parthenogenesis. Parthenogenesis involves a reconfiguration of oogenesis which allows the females of some species to produce offspring without fertilization from a male. This is a difficult concept for biology students to comprehend, and to extrapolate from regarding the genetic character of the offspring produced in this way.
